The primary purpose of the proposed project is to improve traffic operations to accommodate projected traffic volumes, and improve the roadway and bridges to new design and safety standards along I-26 between MM 187 and 194.

More than simply widening the interstate or improving the SC 27 intersection, this project offers opportunities to provide safety, operational, and drainage improvements through increased mobility of freight and people.

This project is evaluating:

Adding a travel lane in each direction of I-26 toward the existing median
Median safety improvements
Improving the Exit 187 interchange and ramps
Replacing the I-26 mainline dual bridges over Cypress Swamp
Replacement of Cypress Campground Road bridge on new alignment over I-26
Drainage improvements
